Gasping for air and searching for words, is ’s new intimate track “We Were in Love.”  There is a lot of buzz surrounding Ta-Ku right now about his talent and capabilities of mashing sounds to a new level. His sound cloud about him section just simply states “Genre Killer,” and he is upholding to that title with this recently released track building up to his new EP titled , that drops next month (exact date still TBD). Normally Australian producer Ta-Ku stylizes more trappy jams with ear numbing beats, and abstract spins on more traditional songs.

What I love about this song is the simplicity, and by simplicity I mean I can’t fathom the NON-simple techniques into producing the way he does, but this track is enticing because it relies on the pure beats sprinkled with simple lyrics. Yet you still catch your mind trapped in the song allowing it to pull whatever emotions out of you, that you desire to pair with it. Jhene Aiko is supplying the tantalizing vocals, and Ta-Ku cuts a piece of her breathing in and loops it throughout the song, and goddamn is it hot, lustfully so.

Considering the new album is titled Songs To Break Up To I can only imagine Ta-Ku’s inspiration for this song, and it may be about once being in love (hence the title), but like I said before its more beat focused than lyrically driven and I found myself associating whatever emotions came to my personal mind piloted by the lulls and pickups of Aiko’s breathing and measures it encompassed. Make of this song whatever you desire and keep your ears out for this new EP sure to take your breath away.
