Mmmmm. Bringing Channy Leneagh, of Poliça and soon to be rock goddess fame (not to mention the band I’ll pimp harder than any other out there each new single, because they’re marvelous) along is always a good idea to peak my attention. But I’ve been paying attention to Chicago based Supreme Cuts ever since their remix of Ryan Hemsworth stellar single, “Overthinking’, sent me into a creative boon time, thinking about ‘deep shit, for real, man’.

Supreme Cuts have absolute exquisite control over synth work that could easily spiral into chaos in lesser hands. Evocative, percolating notes inspire visions of calm seas and white, sandy beaches; but they never let you linger there, instead constantly weaving the buildup like a sine wave, looping you down into serenity and then rocketing you up into some pretty sweet moments that feel like cloudbusting.

“Envisions” is a track about bursting out of a ghost town that plagues you, that tries to ground you from going higher. Leneagh’s vocals capture that essence perfectly, bringing over that brooding melancholia that scintillates sharply with a double-edged hope. You’d think she’d get lost in the production, but instead her vocal delivery is your Falcor in the beginning of what feels like your life’s never-ending story.
