Kilo Kish is one of those casually charismatic performers that cascades cool at the listener. There are no mountains of melisma needed here, instead Kish coos with a estrogen fueled swagger that conveys a close-dance current through a club in a few notes. On her new track, “Goldmine”, Kish takes all of those characteristics and molds them together into a smart combo of Aaliyah, Yasmin and M.I.A.
It doesn’t hurt that master producer Star Slinger is at the helm of this track either. Star Slinger has evolved over the years, but keeps his trademark abstract smooth style here, adding lovely touches like the distorted bird squawk bridge and a whole host of ornate instrumentation below the surface of the song.
If you don’t know Star Slinger, you really must: he’s my banner standard for remixes. To try him out, I suggest starting off with his takes Alpine’s “Icypoles”, and Gold Panda’s “Marriage” – both of which rank high up on my favorite songs list.
