I do the midnight mode mambo with my mind all the time. I’m writing this at 2:17am–an hour, even in the rural parts of Thailand where roosters roam every inch of the road, where even they would say ‘fuck off. this is too early to wake the world’.  But since I was 7 my blood gushed nocturnal–those red blood cells shaded a tint of dusk.  I lost part of my sight when I was younger, trying to craft stories by the meagerness of a nightlight–trying to escape the terror of people failing to circulate my circadian rhythms with the rest of the folk. But, now, as an adult, it’s the time I walk up and down 90 stories in skyscrapers to escape stories that climb inside my mind, that I tango around treacherours terrains and sidewalks that try to attack me as I simply go for a nighttime stroll.

My brain, my life has collected enough stories at this point that it doesn’t need to craft them anymore–they come to it.  And so I get the slow banger, marauding feeling of this new Galimatias track, “Night Owl”. Borrowing elements of trip-hop and instilling them into a dark indietronica of today,  “Night Owl” one of many potential stories that can come through your thoughts as you trip, and then try to hop unscathed through the streetlights that seek to ”illuminate’ shit for you. Eventually, though, just by the nature of night, you’re going to stumble and stay right in that spotlight.  Sure, please help me remember that I ‘them down’. Stellar!

But the breakdown there–much as it is here in this song–is a wonderful mess of dichotomies: a bit like if Jake Gyllenhaal was rubbing gravel into the side of the head while stroking your nipple and sharing his headphone so you can listen to his favorite The Shoes LP.
