[CONCERT COVERAGE] Morgan Page 3D at Chicago's Concord Hall

Grammy nominated DJ/producer Morgan Page has been on our radar for quite some time now, mainly due to his numerous successful dance hits such as “The Longest Road” and “In The Air,” so when we’ve heard that he’s chosen Chicago as one of the stops on his three month long fall tour the decision to catch him live was a no brainer. Fans of the artist were in for a real treat as the electronic musician combined 3D visual graphics with many of his hits and current dance music chart toppers for a one of a kind interactive experience.

Using the technology originally created for Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” Tour, the set up composed of two screens located behind the DJ booth and directly facing the crowd, flashed numerous images and visual sequences synced to Morgan’s cinematic set including depictions of a forest, underwater, and space along with flashing lyrics that made it easy for the crowd to follow along. A result of the work of thirty animators combined with many familiar and some original music the artist composed specifically for the show was undoubtedly a sensory overload for all. Combined with shooting confetti, lasers, and haze, it was hard to think of anything else the show didn’t have.

Preceding Morgan’s exciting performance were two current rising starts on the EDM scene, Walden and Project 46. The energetic progressive house festival feel of Walden and the melodic trance and vocal house of Project 46 was an excellent choice for openers who not only delivered but created a good amount of anticipation for the headliner.

As Morgan took the stage immediately after Project 46 and without any interruptions the crowd went wild. As the show progressed both sonically and visually, the energy in the room seemed to shift from high to skyrocketing. Having already gained a large following from his well-executed and always up to date weekly podcasts, the artist proved why he is currently one of the most successful and popular American DJ/producers on the very competitive EDM scene. Flawlessly combining a multitude of eargasmic tracks with stunning visuals he successfully created a beautiful and emotional environment; one that not only took the audience on a journey but also allowed for a full-fledged escape. The show undeniably is creating a precedent for the numerous visual and sonic possibilities many will surely copy for years to come. The fact that we witnessed the start of an entirely new concert experience is an event that we will cherish for a long time to come.
