Emerged from the fog with my fucked up dialogue.

And with that, Pictureplane is back. You might remember him from his 2009 hit ‘Goth Star’ or from the litany of tracks that made up 2011’s seminal Thee Physical, like “Real Is A Feeling”, “Post Physical”, “Negative Slave” and fuck, well, all of it.  But Pictureplane is never just back, his music has a fucking mission. Thee Physical ranks high up in my all time LPs because it hit me in a time of my life when I found the poststructuralist body alluring.  Hell, more than enticing, I lived it for a number of years. Modernist bodies viewed ourselves as these closed off systems of cells, where my skin is the barrier to you and anything that comes inside me is an invading force.

What’s the problem with that? It creates all these false boundaries that deny the continuum of existence that makes up humanity. Suddenly, gender is beholden to these bullshit artifices instead of giving into humanity’s grand tradition of genderfucking because its a ‘personal choice’ within the limits of your body that must meet cultural expectations. Back in the not so distant day this was used to say sexuality was a choice, but suddenly, sexuality is beholden to these neat little categories of Straight and LGBT instead of us  feeling comfortable enough to just say ‘people fuck what they want, when they want’.  Postructuralist bodies are about breaking down those barriers and viewing humanity as the shared blood, shared behaviours that we all are.

Pictureplane’s Thee Physical intersected the way that music can create the conditions for us to all be ‘trancegender’, and our bodies ‘post physical’ with the only feeling that matters is that of being ‘real’. But ‘Fog Dialogue’ as the start of a new Pictureplane project, feels like a different beast.  Which makes sense, as after awhile, dispersing the boundaries of your body can fuck you up.  It feels like you’ve dissolved into a haze, a fog.  And when you come out of it, it’s all about the need to create strict, sharp lines of yourself.

And that’s where ‘Fog Dialogue’ is. It starts  with an almost violent declaration of independence with what at first seems like an innocuous phrase, calling gin. But gin is all about strategizing to remove ‘deadwood’ to win; and that’s the first step in defining yourself to emerge. What are you not? Through pounding synths and vocals that reign anthemic even over them, ‘Fog Dialogue’ is a natural extension of Thee Physical’s work,  like the beginning of a project of saying “Look, man, I’ve been swirling as a bit of nothing for sometime now; and I desperately want to redraw myself. But it’s not all peaches and glory, we’re going to have wade through some fucked up internal dialogue to get there’.
