[DARK POP] SaneBeats- To The Beach [FREE DL]
Dark pop is a summertime thing, too. Emerging from the water on a rainy day, with the drizzle feeding the ocean as much as it is your emotions, you slick back your hair and feel the first sunrays punch out of the clouds and bask your face. It’s a cold warmth, but at least it has some emotional flair to it. I generally despise summer tracks because they take the season too literally. Somewhere around June everyone tries to inject coked up beats into their music that blare as shallowly peppy as a cacophony of Cancun spring break parties spread out over a very long three months.
But summertime is feeling your consciousness alter as you nighttime dance on a Brooklyn beach, the sound of the City murmuring in the background. It’s rides in a car from Jersey, jamming with friends, euphoria consuming you all as you join in together to the lyrics of the same track just as the skyline begins to light you up. It’s standing at the subway station, the after effects of a warehouse party lingering like ecstatic bruises as you only half-hope to fall asleep.
Sanebeats gets that. ‘To The Beach’, and in general all of his tracks, is full of rich sonic palettes that revel in the euphoria of the darker side of life. ‘To The Beach’ is for the slow burn epic adventures of summer, the memories you actually remember, the intimate moments of life where love, light and darkness feel synchronous. I keep promoting Sanebeats because he’s hands down one of the best electronic producers out there, and helmed the remix of my favorite track last year, Josef Salvat’s ‘Hustler’. He gets the complexities of summer right here, but he also has an ear for the general deepness of life.
