It’s dreary and depressing in Chicago. Spring is fighting for it’s life here, but it’s round 3 and winter is a tough motherfucker. Wait a second, let me check my calender… yup, it’s almost May, yet the cold, wet weather outside my window weaves a different tale of depression and apathy. I imagine it’s the type of weather Bill Withers was alluding to in “Ain’t No Sunsine.” It’s the take-a-look-outside-and-go-right-back-to-bed weather. But Norwegian producer Lido sees it a different way, as his powerhouse of a remix boldly points out. Bill’s smokey vocals float in front of dripping synths as the ticking counts down to the hard-hitting grand entrance of the track. All of a sudden the clouds clear and what you once thought was a depressing becomes fresh, bouncy feel-good material.
Lido caught my attention with his recent bootleg of Disclosure’s “Latch”, which unfortunately got taken down by the Soundcloud police soon after. Thankfully, he’s given us this nugget to chew on until the release of his forthcoming album on Pelican Fly. Enjoy the good vibes below and here’s to warm weather in the near future.
