[ELECTRO/POP] Mansions On The Moon - "Somewhere Else Tonight"

These late nights and never ending parties, leading to adventures you never thought you would have. Popping drugs with outcomes you aren’t entirely certain of and making out with ‘that one girl’ in a dark corner of the club. Yeah, being young and exploring the early hours of a bustling metropolis is something that has been a large part of my life as my twenties have continued to shape the person I am now. But as I grow older and realize these nights only end up leading toward the same type of people and the same type of parties that I begin looking to get my kicks from something that has meaning beyond the shallow pockets of big spenders. It’s not that these nights weren’t fun – quite the opposite, actually – but it was coming to this realization of knowing there was something more that I knew I had to start doing things differently and breaking out of the routine that city life can bring. It was time to change things up. Mansions On The Moon‘s latest track takes my humdrum nights and serves them shaken, not stirred, as we resist going with the flow to find something more.

It’s late at night
Everyone’s out
Doin’ the same thing.

The LA based troupe hits us with a bit of a different sound than we’re used to hearing from the group, reminiscent of sounds that you might hear coming from M83, Smallpools, and Little Daylight. Keeping their trademark hazy vocals and injecting them with bouncy synths and a touch of the electronic spectrum, MOTM goes somewhere else with their music, taking us with them to a new place tonight. It’s a refreshing summer sound that I can fully relate with, and I appluad the group for their decision to hit up the new brewery down the street instead of waiting in line at the same old club yet again.
