[EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW] Rebelution Talks Reggae and Reincarnation at North Coast Music Festival
Reading music:

Like most performing musicians, Santa Barbara-based group Rebelution are no stranger to life on the road. Having just completed a summer long, headlining tour across the United States, dubbed the “Good Vibes Summer Tour” – which included acts such as Matisyahu, Collie Buddz, Zion-I and John Brown’s Body – Rebelution is already planning on getting back into the studio to begin recording music for their next album. With their previous EP, Peace of Mind, having been awarded the iTunes “Best Crossover Album” at the time, the group has nowhere to go but up.

Where they differ from most other bands, however, is in their approach to how they make and think about music, the perspectives they share toward life, and the drive to get things done and spread the good vibes to as many people as possible. And they truly live what they preach, having gained much of their early fame from a relentless grind of live shows and an insatiable work ethic that keeps them on the road as well as collaborating with a seemingly endless stream of insanely talented musicians. Yet they do all this with an effortless cool that seems to emanate not from their peace pipes (although they’ll tell you otherwise) but from the heart and soul of their beings.

“Bob Marley said, ‘Home is in my head.’ You know what I mean? And he’s totally right, you have to treat it that way and be comfortable and at ease. That’s the key I think to writing music, feeling inspired, and getting creative.” – Eric Rachmany

The Sights and Sounds had the opportunity to sit down with Eric Rachmany (lead vocals/guitar) and Wesley Finley (drummer), while the group was in town performing at North Coast Music Festival to chat about reggae music, writer’s block, reincarnation, and the regrets of Keystone Light. There is much to be learned from how these guys approach the music they make and the viewpoints they have to share, so hit play below, sit back, and enjoy the mellow vibes radiating from Rebelution.
