destinys child - Nuclear (Beat Connection Edit)

The changes are subtle, but Beat Connection‘s remix of Destiny’s Child‘s first single in years, “Nuclear” manages to alter the genre of the song. In the world of remixes, it’s pretty unique: more of a horizontal shift in tonal quality rather than a complete rework.

The move from a traditional R&B/pop song to nu-jazz comes by way of accentuating the piano driveline, removing some distortion and throwing in a few tastefully placed early 90s dance sounds. But these changes ‘on a quantum level’ bring Destiny’s Child’s and Beat Connection’s visions into complete harmony.

But most important of all, Beat Connection gave hipsters a nonironic reason to listen to Destiny’s Child. Although if you are too uptight to listen to Queen B, you’re a little too high-strung for me. It’s another example of the growing legitimacy and melding worlds of indie artists and mainstream artists—and if Destiny’s Child don’t release this as an official remix (I think it should have been the original release) than some justice is being denied to listeners everywhere.
