When I originally found Brøthers debut single, “We Are Pushing On”, I was in a bit of a dark place. Exhausted by surviving two years of extensive chemo for lymphoma, I’d made it out alive but had been lingering for almost a year in a place of emotional stagnation. Maybe it was how hard I had to drive myself to beat the disease, but I couldn’t find the impetus to keep marching on towards my goals. “We Are Pushing On” was one of the first tracks that sparked those seeds of life inside me again.

So, I ‘ve been slightly obsessed with their music video for said track, which beautifully features that irony of that struggle. Juxtaposing images of cells under a microscope with images of individuals marching alone and together, their video amplifies and ultimately destroys the dangerous dichotomy of mind/body that can leave us floundering. Just because what the eye can’t see may be dangerous, doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be connected with the world.

The images of individuals marching on with others is important because it helps us realize that even though crisis can be intensely personal, it’s always the case that joy and pain can be equally shared and experienced as a group feeling with those you love.
