[CONCERT COVERAGE/PHOTO RECAP] Dada Life Breaks World Guinness Record at Freaky Deaky 2013
Reading music:

Last weekend I helped break a Guinness World Record while wearing a rubber ducky onesie, what did you accomplish? Side by side with 4,800 people who shared my world record dream, I fought and took massive, fluffy hits to the face as the Swedish electro-house duo, Dada Life, led the audience at Aragon Ballroom into the history books at Freaky Deaky 2013.

DotEXE and Craze churned out hyped up opening sets to warm up the sold out crowd, most of whom were vying for a spot as close to the front as they could squeeze. Naught to be overshadowed be the record breaking attempt, LA producer Clockwork also threw down a heavy hitting opening set that included, among other bangers, his brand new single, “Blitz.”

And while all the opening acts had great sets, the highlight of the night was Dada Life’s World Record Attempt, and here was a rundown of the rules:

1. Make sure you hold on to your pillow until the record breaking attempt begins.
2. Each participant must be armed with their own pillow prior to the attempt commencing.
3. Participants must be standing on the floor or balcony in clear view of the stage.
4. The pillow fight will last for at least 60 seconds.
5. All participants must be actively participating in the fight for the entire 60 second duration.

Seems easy, right? Well I began to grow skeptical as I saw more and more of the 5,000 pillows that were brought in being shredded into feathers at the hands of concert goers. I knew Dada Life needed at least 3,200 active pillows smashing into faces to break the record, I just hoped I got some good hits in. After a short rules speech by the World Guinness Record judges, it was time for some Happy Violence as the Aragon exploded into a chaotic scene of pillows, feathers and reckless, child-like abandon for the 60-second world record attempt. Immediately following the minute-long war was a massive set from the Swedish duo that included crowd favorites such as:

“Boing Clash Boom”
“Happy Violence”
“Born To Rage”
“Kick Out The Epic Motherfucker”
“So Young So High”

By the last track of the night, the dance floor had transformed into a comfy, down blanket 2 feet deep as more and more pillows relinquished their feathery guts to the happy violence. In the end, the World Guinness Records people announced that the banana-toting, champagne drinking duo had, in fact, broken the World Record for Largest Pillow Fight in history. My hats off to Dada Life and everyone involved in making it into the Guinness Books.
