Twenty-three years in and The String Cheese Incident are still rocking cities with massive 3-day jam sessions that continue to captivate young and old audiences everywhere. To try and pin down the group’s sound might take a day or two – they range from bluegrass and rock to electronica, calypso, country, funk, jazz, Latin, progressive rock, reggae, and the occasional psychedelia. The thing you need to know is that these guys are phenomenal live, able to play 3-night runs without repeating themselves once.

The Colorado troupe recently stopped through Chicago on their Winter Carnival Tour, playing to a diverse and sold-out Aragon Ballroom crowd. The audience was indicative of the band’s wide-ranging reach of fans, bringing together young and old, hippies and suits, bearded men, fresh shaved college kids, moms, dads, and pubescent rebellious teens. The mix of people was just as magical as the music. We were there capturing all the magic with our camera and taking in the atmosphere, enjoying what live music is all about: bringing together people of different backgrounds to express themselves freely, and using the music to do. Check out all our photos from the event above and make sure to catch them on tour, dates below.
