I could fly in the daylight if I wanted; but it never suited me. It should suit me. It suits everybody fucking else.  But I can’t take commitment to the antiseptic rays of the sun, and the way they peer around like friends into your crevices and invite you to come out and play with the trustworthy rest of humanity.  Eesh, man, that’s worthy of sacrificing your chance to be angelic just to keep private all the dark vertebrae that line the spine you use to walk in the world with even a modicum of confidence. And if  you choose to do so, to burn your wings and just walk (instead of feeling weak as you foible around in an overexposing sky), you could keep yourself as Sombear puts it, in a life of ‘arrested dreams’ .

Sombear’s track is as arresting as the pursuit of unrequited dreams it explores. Over anxious, mercurial synths that are laced with just a touch of ironic freedom, “Find Me At Night” hopes to find that the darkness offers the same path as the one just given up.  It won’t; but as the arrangement picks up speed, it finds that it’s not exactly lacking a heartbeat in this new world.  And if your heart’s still beating, than the decision to not fly over all the mess that makes up your life, and instead battle it face to face with your iron spine in tandem….starts to feel like the spark of life that you needed.
