Henry Fong is keeping busy in 2019 with “Irie” being his second release in the space of five months, as well as an EP planned for summer.
With such a frantic pace, the question that should be on lips is: Can Henry maintain his high standards? Or will he slip up and slip into the dreaded pit of mediocrity?
If this collaboration with Rawtek and Craigy T is any indication of what’s to come, then I think it’s safe to say that everything is going to end up alright.
The track pulls no punches with its frantic pacing, aggressive bass, and beautiful horn sections. Craigy T’s vocals, though simplistic and repetitive, are delivered with energetic passion and never overstay their welcome.
To describe this track in one sentence: It’s what you get when you take German dancehall SEEED, and lock them into a room, and tell them you won’t let them out until they start writing club bangers. Just in case it wasn’t 100% clear, this is absolutely a good thing!
“Irie” is a track that feels very self aware and sure of itself. It’s clearly a reflection of the maturity of talent involved and it makes me want to follow Henry in all his endeavors to come.
