[Festival] Lollapalooza Announces 2017 Lineup: Hits, Misses, Surprises
Since Lollapalooza’s conception in 1991 by singer Perry Farrell, originally a mere farewell tour for his band Jane’s Addiction, the festival has brought together some of the biggest names in music across a wide array of genres including alternative rock, metal, punk, hip-hop, and EDM.
Following the festival’s revival in 2003 after its stop in 1997 and a subsequent move to Chicago’s Grant Park in 2005 by Texas–based company Capital Sports Entertainment (presently C3 Presents), Lollapalooza has been a weekend destination providing a unique platform for artists, comedians, and visual artists alike.
Earlier this week Lollapalooza organizers revealed the festival’s 2017 star studded lineup taking place August 3rd-6th at Chicago’s Grant Park.
To no surprise the festival is absolutely-positively-stacked with musical pioneers and twenty-first century moguls. Among this year’s headliners are some of the biggest names in music at the moment including: Chicago’s own Chance the Rapper, Arcade Fire, and Muse. Other huge names and no surprise performers include: The xx, Lorde, DJ Snake, Justice, Big Sean, Run the Jewels, and Alt-J.
Interestingly enough, while the lineup is full of huge names sure to please a wide audience we have seen a slight decline in the number of EDM names festival wide. While the festival seems as if it may be moving in a different direction than some may have foreseen it’s surely full of surprise acts.
Our ten most notable surprises of the lineup include:
THE SHINS
SPOON
RYAN ADAMS
MAC DEMARCO
PUP
SOIF TUKKER
PORTER ROBINSON
G JONES
GRAMATIK
MAGGIE ROGERS
While the festival is bringing forth some great surprises and names omitted from many festival bills, there are some names we wish were on the bill.
The top five acts we wish we could see this year at Lolla include:
DRAKE
FRANK OCEAN
SOLANGE
BOB MOSES
APHEX TWIN
While four-day GA passes for the festival sold out instantly Sunday GA passes and VIP packages are still on sale. Check out this year’s full lineup below and get passes while you still can here.
