Hot damn. Despite making the only remix of Josef Salvat‘s “Hustler” that titillated my ears in the proper dark manner—which, let’s be honest, that song was never meant to be a club anthem despite many others’ failed attempts—SaneBeats is back already with an insanely amazing remix of Bastille’s “Things We Lost in the Fire”. More than anyone to touch the song yet, SaneBeats traces his beats along the track marks of the track’s dark passenger within, reconstructing a mercurial story worthy of Bastille’s lyricism.

The first twenty times I listened to it, it was pouring rain outside, the mist hanging like fog over the city lights at dusk. So I packed a Viet style baguette, found an alcove in a park, put my hoodie up, and let the scintillating synths of SaneBeats awash over me like the drastic drizzle all around me. Electronic and environmental ambience merged to reemerge deep seated feelings of disconnection with my life, of throwing myself into the space of the world’s locales and hoping never to stick. I thought of how I got to be that way for so long, latching onto Bastille’s lyrics about being a matchstick and imagining all the pressures of the world, all the people around me furiously rubbing me: a little and you’re a warm loving ember, too much and they’re the catalyst for a massive, destructive flame.

And then I just didn’t move for about an hour. Music like this just floors me, and I’m never ashamed to admit so.
