Another year, another Spring Awakening to kick off the festival season in Chicagoland!

Unfortunately, Spring Awakening this year was riddled with grey clouds and intermittent rain. However, attendance at the festival seemed unfazed, with people decked out in their elaborate and colorful outfits to brighten up the scene. Despite the weather, Chicagoans did not hesitate to come together at Addams/Meddill Park for the Midwest’s biggest electronic music festival.

Regarding production, Spring Awakening’s organizers really impressed the attendees with all new stage layouts for the two main stages: Solstice and Equinox.

The Equinox stage hosted a wide layout with impressive LED screens. Artists including Zeds Dead and Porter Robinson performed in front of the huge LED displays, enhancing audio-visual experience during their sets. The Solstice stage remained consistent with its Spring Awakening theme, LEDs, and impressive pyrotechnics. In addition to these main stages, attendees could venture to the two branded, exclusive club-style tents that hosted specially curated lineups for each night.

Spring Awakening took huge measures to improve the offerings beyond the music. The festival kept its attendees happy and hydrated, with its water world of filling stations. Food trucks and stands kept everyone’s appetites satisfied after all the dancing – a definite improvement from previous years. Braver festival-goers had the opportunity to take a spin on the carnival rides they offered. For those who opted not to, the rides served as the go-to photo opportunity sites.

Throughout the weekend, EDM all-time heavy weights blessed the Chicago community with amazing nostalgic sets that reminded us all why we all fell in love with the music to begin with.

There was something for the OG electronic music lovers, and something new for the newcomers. Regardless of when and where anyone fell in love with the music, it was evident in Spring Awakening’s diverse crowd that everyone could come together happily and harmoniously dancing together.

There was also something about the weather that made the experience unique. The attendees seemed to embrace the mud, dancing and moshing with oversized beach balls. What really was a sight to see was when thick fog was rolling in as a Chicago fan favorite Deadmau5 began his set. With the lights beaming in the dog as we danced to “Strobe” was really an experience.

Spring Awakening has come a long way, but this year it didn’t hesitate to show that they hold true to their roots, while welcoming in the new. It also showed that it was able to persevere through some lineup issues and inclement weather. So hats off to React Presents for yet another Spring Awakening for the books!
