Five years ago, in a medium-sized concert venue known as Lincoln Hall, I met and took my first shots of Jamo with James Patterson and Ben Roc, better known these days as The Knocks. Performing in support of the relatively unknown Ellie Goulding at the time, The Knocks were a breath of fresh air for me – chunky funk, live instrumentation, and super dancey hooks that left me craving for more. Since that cold February night, The Knocks have unabashedly clawed and performed their way to the top and are now facing their biggest year to date. Did I mention they’re on board to produce the Wyclef Jean album?

Head back, lungs full of smoke. I open my eyes to the organic lens flare, the sun fighting it’s way through my jailed eyelashes and into my corneas. I exhale and the world is full of haze. Give me my airy make out session with the endless blue before I have to go back in and work – perhaps the medicine will make it easier to sit in front of this computer another day. Alas, it does – thanks for waiting while I kissed the sky.

First made famous by Jimi Hendrix in “Purple Haze”, and also appearing in the Method Man song “How High”, kissing the sky refers to the act of blowing your toke smoke in a skyward direction. Anyone who has ever been to a concert or festival has inevitably seen the plumes rising from nearby sky kissers. Of course, we can metaphorically relate it to the feeling of falling in love – the weightlessness and giddiness of it all – to which The Knocks and Wyclef admit to having taken a hit from some devilishly divine goddess. I can only imagine the high, after all, it’s been a while, so until then I’ll continue to light up and play in the clouds, looking for the angel who can meet me in the atmosphere.

Just one hit and we went up
My love a tripping
Now I feel my body drifting
