I first heard of the indie/folk/rock band Moxie Motive while attending Young The Giant concert. I only caught the last song or two of their set as they were the first band of the the night, but I did have a chance to talk with them a bit after their set. Moxie Motive hails from Chicago and is populated by Matt Duhaime on guitar/vocals/bass, John Smillie on drums, Matt Nurse on keys, and Stephanie Lee on the violin. Moxie Motive just released their first full length album titled, The Ocean’s Wake, in follow up to their 7 song self titled EP and their 2 song Greater Good single . The Ocean’s Wake also finds Robert Haynes guesting on lead guitar for the band. The Ocean’s Wake is definitely on the slower side of the spectrum, but is full of great vocal, acoustics, and the violin really adds a sort of haunting aura to the album. The album is available for download and can be found here.
