One of my favorite new singles of this year has been from Australian electronic duo Empire of the Sun with their soaring cut, “Alive.” The shimmering synths and anthemic chorus find me singing along everytime, simply enjoying being alive in that moment. Cue West coast duo Aaron Graham and David Boehme, known together as Pine Cone Wars, who have gained a solid following on Youtube for their covers of artists such as Coldplay, Katy Perry, and Gaga. Recently, the LA natives turned their attention to the aforementioned Empire of the Sun in one of the best takes of “Alive” I’ve heard to date. With just the guitars and a bit of rhythm, Pine Cone Wars transforms the single into a sunny, acoustic-driven jam that stirs images of nostalgic sunsets, warm bonfires, and general feelings of good tidings.
