After being nearly omnipresent in the indie scene from 2008-2013, Vampire Weekend dropped off the face of the earth for almost 6 years.

The slow-burn rollout of their upcoming album Father of the Bride has been building a steady wave of hype throughout the early stages of 2019.

As the latest in a trio of two-track packages, “This Life/Unbearably White” reassures anxious fans that their long wait will be worth it. Vampire Weekend is back.

“This Life” instantly brings back poolside memories from 2008 with its head-bobbing, infectious guitar lick infused with Vampire Weekend’s signature sonics.

“This Life” is a celebration of the grey areas of life as its joyous musical backdrop is juxtaposed immediately with the first lyric, “Baby I know pain is as natural as the rain”.

“This Life’s” sister track “Unbearably White” pulls off plucky melancholy in a way that only Vampire Weekend can. The course of the song mirrors that of the failing relationship it details and complements the complete approach to song making that “This Life” pulls off so successfully.

(Its also a pretty funny self-aware joke aimed at one of VW’s more consistent digs)

Check out Vampire Weekend’s other 2019 releases below and mark May 3rd on your calendars as the release for Father of the Bride.
