Hot off the success of his summer dance banger One Kiss with Dua Lipa (the hit song topped the UK singles chart for eight consecutive weeks), Calvin Harris teams up with British crooner Sam Smith on another future dance smash, No Promises.

The delightfully surprising collaboration dropped last Friday after both, Harris and Smith teased its release with a series of cute Instagram posts. The exciting bop is yet another successful attempt at Harris’ return to dance music production after last year’s hip-hop influenced 5th studio album, Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1. In addition to Smith, the future hit features Canadian rising star Jessie Reyez, who also co-wrote One Kiss.

Lyrically, the smooth and upbeat tune focuses on a hot one night stand as Smith sings, “I make no promises, I can’t do golden rings but I’ll give you everything.” Reyez, whose vocal contribution is minimal yet effective, confirms his intentions by simply adding a “Tonight,” to the end of the chorus. Logically, the entire affair seems pretty shallow; however, Sam’s soulful vocal and Harris’ elegant production result in a tempting, dance floor-ready offer with no strings attached!

The single marks a welcome return to dance music for Smith, who scored his first global hit by famously collaborating with Disclosure on Latch in 2012, followed by his excellent contribution to Naughty Boy‘s La La La in 2013, and again on Disclosure’s Omen in 2015, but has been focusing on his soul and R&B career ever since.

Smith gushed about the collaboration on Twitter yesterday saying “It has always been a dream of mine to work with and I’m so proud and in love with this song. I had so much fun writing this tune with Calvin and and I hope you can hear that. Turn it up and let’s dance our way into tonight!”

The singer also has been keeping busy this summer while on global tour promoting his number one album The Thrill Of It All, while Harris has been steadily tearing up Vegas through his summer residency at Omnia nightclub.
