7/12/15 – Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre needs little introduction. If you’re a music fan then it’s most likely on your bucket list of places to see a show. If you’re a movie fan, then ‘Get Him To The Greek’ might ring a bell. And if you’re a nature fan, the beauty of the surrounding canyon nestles the moderately-sized, Greek-inspired venue in it’s bosom.

Drew Holcomb And The Neighbors were kicking things off to a folksy start when I arrived. It’s always nice to catch a new band and some new sounds. Check out the beautiful “What Would I Do Without You” here.

My high school years were full of Switchfoot moments: soundtracks on road trips, albums played through a jerry-rigged CD-to-tape deck device, and hours of singing to lyrics off Learning To Breathe and The Legend Of Chin. So yes, it was totally my inner high school kid jumping at the chance to see the San Diego rockers live.

“We make songs of hope. But that’s where these songs are born – in the struggle for life.” -Jon Foreman

Switchfoot took the stage with lead singer Jon and bassist brother Tim Foreman to a roaring applause despite the rather small capacity of the Greek. Fresh off their annual Bro-Am surf contest in San Diego (which has raised north of $1,000,000 for children’s charities since its inception in 2005), the group roared through newer material and classics like it was their first time performing them. Tracks like “Meant To Live”, “I Dare You To Move”, “Love Is Worth It”, and “The Sound” had me singing along with the 5,000-strong audience. Special moments included an acoustic set of “Hello Hurricane” with the band circled around a single mic and a guest performance by Keith Tuck on the cello for “The World You Want”.

A very special night to indulge my nostalgia, Switchfoot was every bit what I remembered and more. They say nostalgia isn’t what it used to be and in this case it holds true – it was better. Check out the full photo recap below.
