Yes, you did read that write. “Obviously” is by Gramatik plus Cherub PLUS Exmag. This is the kind of collab that I live for, not just two great artists pairing up, but three. And those three being incredibly different yet absolutely amazing in their own rights. Thank you music gods. Cherub brings the funktastic vocals and energy that always beams off of them. They fuse funk, electro and live instruments together brought to you two fine hipsters. Gramatik brings Cherubs talent to the next level by grinding in a deep dirty pulse that amps up the sex appeal and addictive friskiness of this song. Gramatik’s overall sound is funky too but way deeper electro than Cherub, which makes this combo so perfect. Exmag is Gramatik’s side project that is a group containing Eric Mendelson, Tyler Dondero, Mike Iannatto, and ILLUMNTR. A super fresh group that has only released one track at this point titled “Tilt Mode” that is just as amusing and funky as one would expect from something Gramatik is involved with.
“I think I’m high, no I definitely am. I can tell by the way that I’m jumping out of my skin. Ill be fine, but damn you’re fine. And that ass is a ten. I hope your not offended just sharing my opinion” opens the floodgates of this song that is some damn straight baby making music. “Girl, it was obvious that I wanted more than a kiss, but no relationship, just some freaky shit… Those eyes, those lips, those hips. Now shake your ass to this.” If those lyrics alone don’t make you want to drop your clothes wait until you hear the sole and groovy syncopated levels of this track. Overall there were 9 people who worked on this track (assuming all the gentleman of ILLUMNTR were involved), and I can only imagine how working with that many people could be difficult but they really created a gem here and I hope they work together again!
