[FESTIVAL COVERAGE] Spring Awakening Music Festival 2013: Day 1 Playlist

The Sights and Sounds has been invited to cover the 2013 Spring Awakening Music Festival at Soldier Field, Chicago and as part of our coverage of the event, and in an effort to continually bring you the best in new and great music, we will be breaking the three day festival into playlist format so you can check out new artists you may not have heard before or rage to your old favorites as the event draws near.

Chicago’s 2nd annual Spring Awakening Music Festival is right around the corner and with just a couple more days until the madness begins, it’s time for you to start figuring out your schedules for each of the now 3-day long festival. And while you may have created your custom schedule already, it’s not too late to find some new sounds to fall in love with.

With Friday being tacked on as an extra festival day this year, Spring Awakening was able to bring in an even bigger lineup than it showcased last year. That’s great news for fans like you and me as we now have a larger menu of handpicked, top shelf artists to choose from.

Day 1 starts with a fantastic mix of international and homegrown talent as Canada’s Moiez and Israel’s Dean Cohen kick off the first two sets of the festival. Balancing out the foreign spinners finds Chicago’s very own Nathan Scott and DangerWayne performing at Da Equinox Stage and Da Drive Tent respectively. Expect some massive sets from these two as they will have the support of the hometown fans supporting. Meanwhile, west and east coasts will collide on Da Main Stage as LA & Brooklyn duo PANTyRAiD drop a set that is sure to include some material off their recent PillowTalk EP.

Miami veteran Robby Rivera and Dutch dance duo Bingo Players will share the 6:30 spot in a tough split decision – but a decision that will guarantee you dancing either way. And, in what seems to be the theme of Day 1 (local vs. abroad), our next set will be split between Chicago hometown heroes Milk N Cookies and international electro house star Dirty South. Rounding out our night will be Nero, who’s massive new track, “Into The Past,” for The Great Gatsby has been on repeat at our apartment. Finishing off the Friday night performances will be another tough decision for most as R3hab and Moby split the headlining responsibilities in what will be an amazing show regardless of who you choose to spend it with.
