The 18th of February sees the release of the much anticipated Experiments album from Dub Elements. The Spanish DJ and production pair spent much of 2014 creating the twelve-track collection, which also features many artist collaborations. An incredibly diverse set of tracks, there is not one genre that resides over the rest, and the duo explores drum & bass, electro and dubstep along the way. We caught up with Dub Elements to hear more about how they made the LP.

How long has ‘Experiments’ been in the making for?

It’s been about 6 months.

Where did the initial idea come from?

We first had the idea in the summer, during our DJ residence in Mass Bass parties at Privilege Ibiza.

Working as a duo, do you take on different roles when working in the studio?

We make a good team and we split the work, although Selu is the one who actually takes the lead in the studio.

What has the reaction been like for the tracks at your live shows?

Really good! Premieres of some of these tracks at clubs or festivals have been massive. It seemed people already knew the tracks even though it was the first time we were playing them out.

What is your standout track from the LP?

We can’t choose just one of the tracks. Every one of them has its own story and its own charm. As far as our favourites go, let’s say “The Underground”, “Yesterday & Always”, “Awesome” and “Bald Elements”.

Do you have any favourite collaborations from the album? Who would you most like to work with in the future?

Again, every artist featured in the album is really close to us and are great friends. We’re sure we’ll collab with them again in the future.

Finally, what can we expect from Dub Elements for the rest of the year?

Right now we’re focused fully on the album. Once the release date is over, we’ll start with the tour and we’re already thinking about preparing a remixes EP. Production-wise, we are taking a rest for a while before resuming pending projects, with the idea in mind of releasing them later this year.
