[INDIE/ELECTRO] Conics - "This Moment"

I’m a big fan of songs that are all buildup, caressing your eardrums, and cooing sweet somethings while playing ‘just the tip’ with your mind. Perhaps that’s a result of having been working 80 hours a week the past few months to achieve life markers—and the idea of orgasmic relief from stress eludes me—or maybe it’s because I’ve always found basking in the afterglow a little bit of a letdown after the comedown.

Conics single, “This Moment” is a perfect encapsulation of that. An exhortation to just let motherfucking go of it all and swim into their sea of salacious synths, “This Moment” never resolves its central emotional tension. It’s all stroking and no happy finish, but that’s where its magic lies: knowing the answer to the song’s pleas would be like one awkward post-coital moment. As it stands now, the song is dream-pop heaven.

Borrowing all the best parts from bands like Sound of Arrows, Miami Horror, and Cadillac, Conics are a major find for my friend Hugh McClure over at Indie Shuffle, who’s helping put this band on the map. So, big tip/tap of the brass balls to you, Mr. McClure for alerting us to this promising new band.
